Interesting how Samsung hired LeBron James in its latest TV commercial for the Galaxy Note 2. I’m assuming they did so to make the ridiculously-large phone/tablet-wannabe look a little more normal sized when used by the massive figure that LeBron is.

Whatever they’re doing, though, must be working because the Galaxy Note 2 is actually selling pretty well according to recent reports from Samsung.

Apparently, if you have completed your contract, you can submit an online request for AT&T to unlock your iPhone for free. Check out the link for more information, including general eligibility requirements for requesting an unlock.

I submitted a request myself a couple days ago and will report back with any news.

Update: Success! I received an email from AT&T within a week stating the request had been completed. All I needed to do was restore the software on my iPhone, and no additional codes of any sort were required. Once I did that, I took the phone to a T-Mobile store, and they were able to insert a T-Mobile SIM card and verified the phone could connect to T-Mobile’s network.

This worked for me: ordered online last night and picked up this morning from the local Apple Store.

A couple tips:

Order as soon as possible after 10pm
If the model you first select is not available, try another one (e.g., different color, storage size, etc.)

Sure, I’m not crazy about what a lot of the Android phone manufacturers are doing, but I am a pretty huge fan of most of Google’s products. And no one can compete with Google Search right now.

Look at the mobile landscape right now. There are two companies that are making any money in smartphones: Apple and Samsung. Or, put another way: Apple and the company Apple just won a billion dollar-plus judgement against for copying their smartphone designs. So while some may find Apple’s trick old hat now, no one else has figured out how to pull it off — except for the company doing a mediocre copy of the trick. I’d argue it’s because everyone is focusing on The Pledge and The Prestige, but Apple is the only one focusing on The Turn.

I love the movie The Prestige. Great analogy in this piece.

These were the takeaway points for me. (But you’ll be able to find a ton more detailed coverage across the web if you like that kind of thing.)

It certainly looks like the iPhone 5 will be a winner — but everyone already knows that.
